REVIEW- Café Bacchus
76 High St.
Morgantown, WV
Being a self-proclaimed “picky-eater,” I admittedly was somewhat skeptical and nervous upon entering Café Bacchus. Being comfortably stuck eating Top Ramen Noodles and fast food, dining at a restaurant that has cloth napkins begins to get intimidating! Café Bacchus is located on south High Street in a Victorian style home. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming environment that is many times lost in fine-dining establishments.

The feelings of anxiety simmered when the friendly waitress took our coats and showed us to our table. The waitress read off the extensive wine list. However, after two fishbowl’s at Mario’s Fishbowl (menu available at DubVmenus) for “Happy Hour,” I decided maybe getting drunk on a Valentines Day date may not be appropriate and ordered a Diet Coke.
She continued her soliloquy of Valentine’s Day specials with complete descriptions of each meal, which varied from Vegan friendly, gluten- free, and everyday delicious entrees. We ordered the Asian crab cakes as an appetizer. The crab cakes held an exotic Asian style served over a Japanese seaweed salad but, still maintained the crab cake essence that brought me back to my hometown where seafood is fresh and abundant.
As an entrée I ordered striped ravioli’s stuffed with ricotta, spinach and sun-dried tomatos in pesto sauce. When the waitress placed the food in front of me it was hard to hide my wince of sheer terror. (Pesto sauce is green?! Why didn’t I know that?!) I stabbed the ravioli, lifted it up to my mouth, closed my eyes, and bit down. It was simply delicious. I ate every last one and then used the fresh bread (prepared daily on premises) to dip in the extra sauce.
The prices for entrees at Café Bacchus run from $18-40 dollars so I suggest saving your dining experience for a special occasion. However, if you’re craving a delicious dessert Café Bacchus prepares an assortment of desserts all for $7 dollars. Over all, Café Bacchus serves up delicious food and delightful service.
